Shiatsu Shiatsu is a Japanese style of bodywork, literally meaning finger pressure. It is a system of healing and health maintenance based on the body's natural energy, called Qi.
This energy runs all over our bodies in pathways
called meridians. The basis of Asian medical theory is that all ailments, including muscular tension
and stress, are a result of obstructed Qi.
Shiatsu applies moderate pressure and streching to the meridians facilitating free flow of Qi, promoting health and relaxation. Shiatsu offers psychological as well as physical benefits, as each meridian has an emotional aspect, allowing for an improvement of one's mood and emotional state. Shiatsu is an excellent stress reliever, and can be very effective in the treatment of sciatica, headaches, fibromyalgia, support of pregnancy and menopause, as well as many common ailments, without side effects. As with western styles of massage therapy, one feels relaxed as muscle tension fades, experiencing a lasting effect of well being after your session. As no direct contact with the skin is required, there are no oils used. Nonrestrictive, comfortable clothing is worn while receiving Shiatsu. |
